Home Construction Regulatory Authority & TARION

Buying a new home or condo is often the single largest purchase a person will ever make.
They deserve to live in a safe, well built home.

The HCRA is the regulator for home builders and vendors. It is responsible for licensing, setting professional standards, and ensuring that builders meet requirements designed to protect consumers. The HCRA can take enforcement action against builders who fail to follow the rules.

Tarion, on the other hand, administers Ontario’s new home warranty program. It provides warranty coverage for newly built homes, helping homeowners with issues such as construction defects, delayed closing, or other covered problems.

In Ontario, all new home builders should be registered with the HCRA and be covered by a TARION new home warranty. In my role as MPP I have raised several issues with the operation of the HCRA and TARION. Below are some links to read and watch on the issues.
