Bill 33 is a dangerous power grab that threatens our schools and our communities. Instead of fixing crumbling classrooms, hiring more teachers, or funding mental health supports, Ford wants to strip power from local school boards and centralize control in his office.
TO THE LEGISLATIVE ASSEMBLY OF ONTARIO, WHEREAS Ontario’s Minister of Education recently announced his plan to eliminate the role of School Board Trustees across the province;
WHEREAS since 2018, the government has taken $6.3 billion out of our education system, leading to larger class sizes, teacher shortages, and growing concerns about mental health and school violence;
WHEREAS Trustees are democratically elected by their local communities to make decisions about policy, giving parents a voice in their children’s education;
WHEREAS Trustees play an important role in determining the allocation of funding at the Boards of Education they serve at;
WHEREAS Democratically elected Trustees are accountable and responsible to their electorate;
We the undersigned petition the Legislative Assembly of Ontario as follows: Respect our school communities across the province of Ontario by preserving the role of school board Trustees and repealing Bill 33.
