The Government removed democratically elected trustees and appointed a supervisor that is making decisions on behalf of parents and communities.
This petition calls on the Ontario Government to stop the relocation of the Gifted Program from Stanley Public School. The decision was made without proper consultation with parents and will force many young students to travel further distances, impacting their safety and ability to participate in the program. We are asking that the government keep the program at Stanley so students can continue to access the program they rely on.
Why fix what isn't broken? If you agree, please sign and share the petition.
TO THE LEGISLATIVE ASSEMBLY OF ONTARIO,
WHEREAS the Toronto District School Board has announced the relocation of the Stanley Public School Intensive Support Gifted Program to Beaumonde Heights J.H.S. without consultation or consideration for the school community, and has further determined that the historic continuation pathway school, Pierre Laporte Middle School, will no longer accept graduates of the Stanley Public School Gifted Program, resulting in these students also being redirected to Beaumonde Heights J.H.S.
WHEREAS this program at Stanley P.S. and the pathway to Pierre Laporte M.S. has a long history in the Jane Finch community,
WHEREAS this will result in a much longer commute for elementary-age children, potentially impacting their safety and wellbeing,
WHEREAS the stated rationale of declining enrollment in the Stanley P.S. ISP Gifted Program does not address the root causes of the decline and instead removes the program entirely,
WHEREAS this decision was made without an impact analysis, a safety assessment, a transportation review or any consultation with the school community,
WHEREAS parents are now facing immense pressure and deadlines to choose between sending their children to a relocated program far from home or losing their space in an ISP program their children depend on,
We the undersigned petition that relocation of the Intensive Support Gifted Program at Stanley Public School be reversed and that the program continues at Stanley Public School, and that graduates be permitted to follow the established pathway of their peers to Pierre Laporte Middle School.
