Withdraw Bill 98 & Fund Public Transit

Transit riders are in danger of higher fares, reduced quality of service, and privatization, thanks to the Government's takeover of our public transit systems via Bill 98.
The bill is the latest overreach by the control-obsessed Ford government. Ontario deserves a reliable public transit system that is properly funded with decisions that are made in the best interest of the people, not the Premier. This petition calls on the government to withdraw the bill, and work collaboratively with municipalities, transit workers, and riders to build a robust, accessible public transit system that is accountable to Ontarians.

TO THE LEGISLATIVE ASSEMBLY OF ONTARIO,

WHEREAS Ontarians rely on safe, affordable, and accessible public transit to get to work, school, and community activities; and

WHEREAS Bill 98 enables the Minister of Transportation to determine fares and service standards for municipal transit systems without meaningful consultation; and

WHEREAS the government refused to accept amendments that would have ensured fares remain affordable and collective agreements are respected, leaving the door open to privatization; and

WE, THE UNDERSIGNED, petition the Legislative Assembly of Ontario to: immediately withdraw Bill 98, properly fund our transit systems, and work collaboratively with municipalities, transit workers and riders to build a robust, accessible public transit system that is accountable to Ontarians.
